We had the pleasure of catching up with the legend himself, Tiki Taane, to ask him a few questions about the release and his relationship with the beautiful medium that is vinyl. See the interview below.

Tell us a bit about yourself Where are you from? How did you get into music?

I’m a Māori musician from Aotearoa NZ who has ended up being a live sound engineer and music producer along the way. I got into music pretty early, starting my thrash metal punk band in 1991 at the age of 14 and playing in pubs at 15. Back then I was heavily inspired by Slayer, Sepultura, Metallica, NWA, Public Enemy.

Tell us a bit about the album?

Soldiers of Fire is a reggae infused hip hop jam that I started in Melbourne at Dubfx’s house. Then I pulled in good friends Tali and Pdigsss (Shapeshifter) to throw some verses in and join us on the choruses. The song is about our love and dedication of being deep within the bass culture trenches.

Tell us about the album artworkWho is the artist?

My bro Raymond Lalotoa hand drew up the cover art which I love.

Tell us why you chose to press it to vinyl - Why did you choose Holiday Records?

I felt that this release was something special and unique which could be celebrated by being pressed into a limited run of translucent red vinyl.
Holiday Records have a great reputation and based in Aotearoa NZ so it felt right to keep it homegrown.
